Set in the township of Khayelitsha, this is the internationally acclaimed re-telling of Carmen. First time film director Mark Dornford-May and first time film actors from the theatre and opera company Dimpho Di Kopane won the prestigious Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin Film Festival 2005. Time Magazine witnessed its extraordinary release in Khayelitsha where many of the actors are from and where the film screened for a month to packed audiences.
