Opportunity is missed by most because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work – Thomas Edison

How poignantly true are these words of all of us? If you said no, then congratulations because you are living life to the fullest, as we all should be! We are blessed to be living in a wonderful country full of opportunities, as new contributor Peter Niemandt points out in his article “9 Lessons I’ve Learnt: Immigrating to another planet”. Many of us may be in desperate need of a mindset renovation in order to fully appreciate our lives. Once we are able to accept our new lives, the better equipped we are to take advantage of every opportunity that comes our way. Even if we have to work a bit harder to achieve that end result. A fantastic example is highlights in Sabona’s review of Faith Like Potatoes. The inspiring true story of Angus Buchan, a Zambian farmer of Scottish heritage, who finds himself struggling to keep his head above water on a farm in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to win a copy of this amazing DVD!

In this issue, Sabona has several guest contributors who provide tips and advice on how to better settle in Australia, how to plan the process and then to look for work and integrate. Barb Grey from Workforce Partners shows how her business helps re-locate Southern Africans into rural employment in Australia and Susan Horgan tells us about her workshops, which help with the cultural and social adjustments.

Also in this issue – an informative review by Ryan Broadfoot of the Holden Epica. This should be very useful for anyone trying to choose a new car in Australia. Plus some helpful tips on how to save fuel and get the biggest bang for your buck!

The cover image for this issue was taken by Rob Nicholls, director and part owner of Safari Holidays. Rob has spent a lot of time photographing our beloved Africa and we are privileged to be able to show some of his work. He also wrote an article Africa is for Children. On the back page Sabona features some great images from Chris Rimmer, who shares one of his recent photographic holidays back to Africa.

Sabona is excited to introduce the SBN Business Awards in this issue. This is an exclusive awards event promoting innovative and successful Southern African owned businesses in Australia.

With many more informative stories, business tips, recipes and humour, we hope you enjoy Issue Eight of Sabona Magazine!
