In the heart of southern Africa's vast Kalahari basin lies the biggest inland delta in the world, the Okavanga delta. This text charts the photographic journey of two men as they spend a year in the region, documenting the progress of the seasons.
About the Authors
Gerald Hinde spent 30 years as MD of a large family motor business before leaving his business cares behind in 1989 and taking up a new career in the African bush. He has won a string of photographic awards in competitions, including the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition, Afga Wildlife Awards (overall winner, 2000), UN Environment Program International Wildlife Photographic Competition and the Fuji Profoto Awards. His photographs appear in Gamedrive, Leopard, An African Experience and Africa's Big Five, as well as in Images from a Timeless Wilderness (Struik, 2000), Catching the Moment (Struik, 2001) and Cats of Africa (Struik 2005). His work has been published widely in national and international magazines, and on calendars and postcards.
Richard du Toit's keen interest in wildlife photography led from a BSc degree in Zoology and Entomology to a professional career as a photographer. He has won numerous awards for his wildlife photographs, and has produced 2 books of his own - African Wildlife Themes and Essential Wildlife Photography. Richard has also has contributed to other major wildlife titles including Creatures of Habit, Images from a Timeless Wilderness and Africa's Big Five. He specializes in photographing wild animals and plants in their natural environments, as well as aerial photography. Richard works as a freelance photographer, traveling throughout southern Africa in search of images. He has been widely published internationally, and is based in Johannesburg.
